A personal narrative is usually told to teach people a lesson or to give important information about something. i feel like they are almost a folk tale, just shared in a personal sense. For example, Sherman Alexie's narritive we read in class have us a lot of facts about the Indian writers/non-Indian riders, juxtaposing that Indian writers don't sell as many copies of books, in which other races write the same content of books. He added that to his narrative about his upbringing and heritage with an overall message of him not wanting to let his heritage get in the way of his daily life (since the word "Indian" has a negative connotation). Also, in Leonard Michaels', he too wanted to forget his past in "In the Fifties" where an overall lesson was to make your decisions purposeful. Both these ideas can be relatable to anyone, which surveys the purpose of telling them.
